Alfie’s Beach House is located in Talpe, on Sri Lanka’s southern coast. It is a quaint and homely beach house that is tastefully decorated and provides its guests with a relaxing ambience. Alfie’s is named after the 3-year-old son of its owner, Piers Lamplough, and was opened to the public in 2013.
Alfie’s has three comfortable bedrooms with attached bathrooms and two ‘chillout’ zones inside the house that are ideal for lounging the hours away. These are complimented by the three relaxing easy chairs that can be found on the veranda, directly outside the master bedroom. Further along the veranda is a full sized outdoor picnic bench-styled dining table, with easy access to it from the beach house kitchen. The garden is well maintained and interspersed with a couple of hammocks hanging between coconut trees. A small summer hut with a thatched roof, located at the end of the garden, separates Alfie’s from the pristine Talpe beach. It is complete with comfortable mattresses and cushions, and was our favourite spot to enjoy a few cold ones and take in the breath-taking beauty of the ocean.
With Alfie’s Beach House already being a popular destination for locals and tourists alike, plans for further additions such as another room, swimming pool and a 50-inch television complete with a mini theatre system in one of the indoor ‘chillout’ zones are currently underway.
Alfie’s Beach House is an affordable and comfortable place to stay; it has a very relaxing vibe about it that is perfect for the idyllic beach setting.
Talpe is located on Sri Lanka’s southern coast, 23kms or approximately 20 minutes south of Galle, which is a little over an hour from Colombo via the Southern Expressway.
Three spacious bedrooms, each with clean, quaint, en suite bathrooms, can comfortably accommodate up to six adults. The master bedroom however is a room worth fighting for with your mates. With a view that includes a lush garden scattered with coconut trees, seemingly blending into the majestic blue waters of the Indian Ocean, this is definitely a sight to treasure as you groggily welcome a new day.
FOOD & DRINK
Marketed as a B&B, the package rate at Alfie’s includes either a Sri Lankan or Mediterranean breakfast. We enjoyed an authentic and delicious string hopper spread, cooked with care by the manager’s charming wife. As lunch and dinner are not usually included, you will have to either dine out at one of the many nearby beach restaurants or bring along provisions, which the exceedingly friendly and eager to please staff, will happily prepare for you.
WHAT LT LOVES!
Everything!! From the friendly attentiveness of the staff to the laid-back ambience, Alfie’s Beach House is solely focused on providing you with the perfect affordable option to relax and rejuvenate yourself. The outdoor bathroom attached to one of the smaller rooms is rather unique and adds character to this charming little Beach House. This bathroom gives you a sense of being one with nature, without realising how close you are to the hustle and bustle of Galle Road.
THINGS TO DO
Alfie’s Beach House offers privacy and comfort. A dip in the ocean is only a few steps away and being so close to the vibrant beach strips of Unawatuna and Mirissa, there are a multitude of options and dining establishments to keep you fed and entertained during your stay.
